Who We Are
Chris has worked within the financial services industry since September 1998, having previously worked for Yorkshire Bank and then moving to William H Brown estate agents in May 2007. He was invited to join Navigation Wealth Management in February 2008 where he worked as a self-employed mortgage broker for 14 years. It was during his time at Navigation Wealth Management that Chris developed his skills as a mortgage broker and learned how to add true value to his clients. Certainly, his first few years were challenging as he started his self-employed journey during the global financial crisis in 2008. Despite these challenges he still managed to grow his business during this time.
Chris has experience dealing with a vast array of clients which include many high-net-worth clients and professionals including professional sports people. He has built special relationships with lenders which is beneficial when dealing with more complex cases, helping our clients get access to the best deals. In the current climate, many clients require a lender who can assess their application on their full situation taking individual circumstances in to consideration.
In August 2022, Chris Law Mortgages was created to help try and grow his business further and also to enhance our clients experience through our new client portal. We currently have a strong administrative support team of 4 who ensure our clients are looked after throughout their mortgage journey from application to the day of completion. They are on hand to help if any problems or challenges arise.
What We Achieved
We grow our business on client referrals and always ask clients to leave us a review. Thanks to these reviews, Chris has appeared in Vouched For's - Top Rated Adviser Guide each year since 2020 which is a guide distributed nationally in The Times newspaper. Chris is extremely proud that these reviews constantly highlight the role that our support staff have in helping clients and show that our clients value the service that we provide as a team.

Chris Law
I started my career in financial services with Yorkshire Bank in 1997. Prior to this, I had a number of part time jobs at Argos, Burger King and a local care home, although my first ever employment was doing a milk round and getting up at 4.30am for £16 per week!
After leaving Yorkshire Bank in 2007, I joined William H Brown estate agents where I had my first experience of being a broker and having to deal with all lenders and getting use to different rules on affordability and criteria. I then started my self-employed journey in 2008 as a mortgage advisor with Navigation Wealth Management within St. James’s Place.
In 2013, after surviving the financial crash of 2008 and the years after, I employed my first member of staff and currently I have a team of 4 (including my wife Claire) to help support my clients’ applications.
Alison Dearman
I grew up in Tottenham, North London, and after completing my studies, I began my career in the legal sector, working for a respected firm of solicitors in London specializing in family law. I then moved on to Abbey National, followed by Halifax Bank in 1989. Over the years, I gained valuable experience across several branches in London before relocating to Yorkshire in 2002. In Yorkshire, I worked in the Barnsley, Wakefield, Ossett, and Huddersfield branches. It is bittersweet to reflect on the closure of many of these branches, where I had the privilege of serving clients over the years.
In 1998, I achieved my CeMap mortgage qualification and have since dedicated myself to providing expert mortgage and protection advice to clients.
I am thrilled to have joined Chris, Claire, and the team, and I look forward to leveraging my experience to offer tailored, professional advice that meets the unique needs of each client.
Outside of work, I live in Huddersfield with my husband and daughter, enjoying a beautiful view of the Emley Moor Mast from our home. Although I’ve called Yorkshire home for over 20 years, I still haven’t quite mastered the accent. We are fortunate to have a horse named Vicky, who certainly keeps us on our toes with her spirited personality.
I am passionate about travel, with Greece being my favourite holiday destination. Although I recently embarked on learning Greek, my efforts were less than successful, but it remains on my to-do list.
Shamma Bhatoye
Hello, I’m Shamma! With 19 years of experience in both the public and third sectors, I have had the privilege of leading teams and guiding individuals through complex and challenging situations. My expertise in navigating intricate processes, providing reassurance, and delivering practical solutions now allows me to offer exceptional service to my clients in the mortgage and protection sector.
As a CeMAP qualified mortgage & protection advisor, I’m driven by a passion for property and finance and committed to helping clients achieve their property goals. I stay informed on the latest market trends to provide clear, tailored advice, ensuring that each client’s mortgage journey is as smooth and stress-free as possible. Whether you are a first-time buyer, remortgaging, or exploring protection options, I am here to provide support every step of the way.
Outside of my professional life, I am kept busy by my children, who provide endless entertainment. I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, tending to our allotment and chickens, and transforming homegrown ingredients into delicious meals and bakes. I also have a passion for natural, sustainable skincare, which I share as a Tropic Skincare Ambassador.
Claire Law
After leaving school I worked in retail before having a change in career to banking in 2003 when I started working for Yorkshire Bank. After 2 years in banking, I had a further change in career and began working for Card Factory Head office based in Wakefield where I worked in supply chain and distribution. I stayed at Card Factory for 18 years until I finally took the plunge in September 2022 to move and work with my husband with a view to helping try and grow the business and to help mix work and family life.
We have 2 children and a Miniature sausage dog called Bruno. I like to spend my spare time watching my son Charlie play football, watching my daughter Gracie dancing and taking Bruno on long walks. I occasionally visit the gym too! My favourite thing to do is go on holiday and I am lucky enough to have visited some amazing places all over the world.
Vicky Nicholls
After leaving university I started my career working for Halifax Bank. I worked for Halifax for over 20 years and nearly all of that time was spent working in mortgages in some capacity, from managing mortgage teams to working as a mortgage advisor. In April 2015 I had the opportunity to come and work with Chris which gave me a chance to further expand my knowledge in the mortgage sector and also give me a better work life balance.
When I am not at work, I spend most of my time with my husband and two children and our family pet Sausage dog Luna, my son has recently started university at Durham so I will be spending a lot of time travelling there to visit. My daughter is an elite gymnast and she keeps us busy taking her to competitions all over the country. When I do get time to myself, I love to read, watch movies and spend time with friends.

After leaving school I studied Travel and Tourism and went onto to work as a travel consultant at Thomas Cook before going onto persue my dream of backpacking around Europe, Asia and Australia. On returning home I began working for a printing company where I had a variety of roles from planning through to project management for a large retail brand, however after 18 years in the print industry I decided I was ready for a change. Chris had previously arranged my own mortgage and then in 2019 I saw that he was advertising for a mortgage administrator and felt that this would be an ideal career change and the perfect role for me and I have been at Chris Law Mortgages ever since.
Away from work, I spend time with my two daughters and husband, tending to our allotment and going on walks in the countryside. I enjoy painting and baking with Victoria sponge being my speciality. I also have a passion for running and having completed a few charity runs in the past and I hope to run a marathon one day.
Charlotte Ferguson
Whilst studying financial services and business studies in Huddersfield, I worked part-time in a local saddlery, until I began my professional career working for a legal firm for 3 years, where we specialised in insurance claims for road traffic accidents. As Chris grew his business, I joined him in 2014 when he began to expand the team to support his clients and I was his first member of staff. I now have 9 years of experience working within mortgage services, enabling me to confidently assist our clients through the various processes, ensuring a high standard of customer service through what can be a very stressful time.
Living in the countryside, I spent most of my childhood outdoors and working with animals. I have a particular passion for horse riding and spent many years taking lessons and putting in countless hours of hard graft mucking out at the neighbouring livery.
